Perhaps many already have their luggage at the door, if they are not already enjoying this first mini vacation. In one way or another, this is a sample of what has recently arrived on the wine market, in the form of new vintages, to put in that little hole left in the suitcase or try and buy wherever we are going to be. A varied proposal for the different times of the day, although the seven young whites and each of them recommended for the arguments that accompany them.

Maruxa Godello 2022
Maruxa Godello 2022 (€9.90) comes from the Galician denomination of Valdeorras, an area where Godello is a reference white grape, and this wine is the youngest from Virgen de Galir. It is a small family winery, located in the small town of Èntoma in Ourense and owned by CVNE for five years. This Maruxa (María in Spanish), which has been in contact with its lees for three months, is an explosion of aromas and endless fruity freshness in the mouth. Notes of fleshy fruit appear, with hints of balsamic and scrubland, and in the mouth it is tasty, very fresh and with good persistence on the palate. Rich; very appetizing.
Protos Verdejo 2022 aged on lees
Very famous for its red wines in Ribera del Duero, Bodegas Protos produces white wines in Rueda that are highly recommended and also common in countless supermarkets and supermarkets. On this occasion, the ‘chosen’ is Protos Verdejo 2022 raised on lees (€7.65), made with Verdejo grapes, as the name indicates, and also very expressive on the nose, with tropical aromas of fresh white fruit, aromatic herbs and citrus touches. Juicy, with a fresh acidity and a pleasant bitter finish typical of the variety with which it is made.
Barbadillo white albariza 2022
Next on this list of young white wines is a classic Sanlúcar from Bodegas Barbadillo. In this, his latest vintage, he has changed his image and name. What was until now Castillo de San Diego, the emblem of the historic house from Cádiz (millions of bottles are sold every year), is transformed into Barbadillo blanco de albariza 2022 (€4.75), with a similar content but not the same and of course with a renewed image. Yes, it is still a monovarietal palomino fino from albariza soils (whitish soil) but it has gained in volume, fruit presence and freshness. For the rest, it is fine, fluid, with a lively acidity, and it preserves the salinity that imprints the territory given the Atlantic and maritime influence.
Pazo de Seoane Rosal 2022
Of how much and recommendable is made with the vineyards of Rías Baixas this Pazo de Seoane Rosal 2022 (€14) from Lagar de Cervera, the winery that the La Rioja Alta group has in O Rosal, Pontevedra. It is the smallest of the house and is made up of 54% albariño with 35% loureiro, 6% treixadura and 5% white caíño, all native white wines. It remains in stainless steel with its lees until it is bottled. Intense in aromas, tasty, lively, fresh, with notes of white fruit, citrus, aromatic herbs and floral hints. A fine wine, balanced and fruity on the palate.
La Sonrisa de Tares 2022
The next of these young white wines is another godello but in its case from Bierzo. It is La Sonrisa de Tares 2022 (€10.90) from the Dominio de Tares winery. From vineyards located 700 meters above sea level, on steep slopes, comes the freshness and acidity that characterizes it, to which it adds volume and smoothness thanks to the five months it remains in contact with its lees. As a whole it is aromatic, fruity, with ripe aromas, citrus, a background of dry herbs, hints of aniseed and minerals. Fluid, with freshness and medium persistence.
Enate gewürztraminer 2022
From Bodega Enate, one of the reference firms in the Somontano denomination, this particular Enate gewürztraminer 2022 (€11.75), a grape that is difficult to pronounce and remember from Alsace (France) and the Rhine Valley (Germany) although It is already found in different wine-growing areas of the world. It provides exuberant and aromatic wines, with sweetness, kindness, and smoothness. Here’s a great example: stone and syrupy fruit, citrus, floral notes. Fluid in the mouth, silky and fine on the palate, with good freshness and a persistent finish with hints of grapefruit. For the label of this Enate, an original creation by the artist Vicente Badenes.
Valdecuevas Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Finally, there is a list of young white wines, another reference under the Rueda denomination. But in this case made with sauvignon blanc. It is Valdecuevas Sauvignon Blanc 2022 (€7.99), from the Valdecuevas family winery, located in the Valladolid municipality of Rueda. As for the wine, it comes from its oldest vines, located on stony soils, and the result is a very aromatic white, where notes of tropical fruit (pineapple), citrus and hints of peach in syrup stand out, together with herbaceous touches.
